Overview

Battlefield 3, released on October 25, 2011, is a critically acclaimed first-person (FPS) shooter video game developed by DICE (EA Digital Illusions CE AB) and published by Electronic Arts. The game is available on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 platforms. As a member of the UI/UX design team, I had the opportunity to work closely with the game's developers to craft a seamless and engaging user experience. My primary responsibilities were designing HUD elements for vehicles, soldiers, menu systems, end-of-round screens and more.

Process

Our design process began with extensive research and analysis of user behavior, preferences, and feedback. Collaborating with other team members, we brainstormed and iterated on various design concepts, focusing on clarity, aesthetics, and functionality. Our goal was to create a cohesive visual language that would enhance the player's experience while still providing the necessary information and feedback.

Once we had a clear direction, we developed wireframes and mockups for the HUD elements, menu systems, and end-of-round screens. We continuously refined our designs, incorporating feedback from both internal and external playtesters. During this phase, we also designed a wide array of badges and medals, ensuring they aligned with the overall visual style and rewarded players for their in-game achievements.

Outcome

The final outcome is a user interface that enriches the Battlefield 3 gaming experience, providing players with the necessary information without obstructing their view of the battlefield. The HUD elements for vehicles and soldiers are designed to be intuitive, allowing players to quickly understand their current status and make informed decisions in the heat of battle. The menu systems are organized and visually appealing, making navigation a breeze for new and experienced players alike.
